Where Filipino heritage meets modern gathering
At 88 Matahimik Street, in the leafy heart of Teacher's Village, Diliman, a dream took root. AMBAI Modern Tambayan opened its doors in early 2025 with a vision as warm and welcoming as the Filipino spirit itself: to create a place where community gathers, where food tells a story, and where every visit feels like coming home.
The word tambayan is deeply Filipino — it describes the place where your people are. The corner where you linger after a long day. The table where stories are shared, laughter rings, and the best conversations unfold. AMBAI took that concept and gave it a modern, refined expression across a 500+ square-meter venue that includes a main dining hall, a casual Tambai Area, private VIP rooms, and a live performance stage.
Located near the iconic Maginhawa food strip, AMBAI was designed for Diliman's creative, intellectual, and community-driven crowd — professors, artists, families, barkada — everyone who believes that a great meal is best served with great company.
Every dish at AMBAI celebrates the depth and creativity of Filipino cuisine — elevating beloved classics like adobo, kare-kare, and palabok through modern technique and thoughtful presentation, without losing their soul.
AMBAI was built around people, not just plates. Our multi-space venue is designed to foster connection — whether you're here for a quiet lunch, a barkada dinner, or a milestone celebration with family.
Live music, open-mic nights, acoustic performances, and jazz sets are woven into the AMBAI experience. Our stage is not an add-on — it is the heartbeat of AMBAI Nights, a weekly celebration of Filipino musical talent.
We honor the richness of Filipino culinary traditions, drawing from regional flavors, ancestral recipes, and the comfort of home-cooked meals passed down through generations.
Our kitchen team approaches every dish with the precision and creativity of modern cuisine — elevating familiar ingredients through thoughtful technique, plating, and flavor development.
From our open-mic nights that welcome local talent to our multi-space layout that fits any group size, everything at AMBAI is designed to serve and strengthen community.
Art, music, food, and design all converge at AMBAI. We believe creativity elevates every experience — from the way a dish is presented to the way a space is lit on a live music night.
Filipino hospitality — malasakit — is in our DNA. Every guest who walks through our doors is treated not as a customer but as a welcomed guest in our tambayan, our home.
